Session: Industry of Energy Generation, Storage and Distribution
Materials roadmap enabling low carbon energy technologies
The Materials Roadmap has been elaborated by nearly hundred leading European scientists and industrial researchers. Their scientific assessments show that materials are at the core of developments in the 11 technologies that are covered: wind energy, photovoltaic energy, concentrating solar power, geothermal energy, electricity grids, electricity storage, bioenergy, carbon capture and storage, nuclear fission, hydrogen and fuel cells, and energy efficient materials for buildings. The Materials Roadmap focuses on material research and development and innovation activities for these low-carbon energy technologies for the next 10 years with market implementation horizons for both 2020/2030 and 2050. It is designed to support coherent and strategic decisions on materials research in industry and academia, both at European level and in EU member states, in line with FP7 and Horizon 2020 and with the priorities of the Strategic Energy Technology Plan (SET-Plan).
