Workshop: An Outlook on Knowledge Intensive Materials in the Future

All modern technologies (e.g.: photonics, microelectronics or nanotechnologies, etc.) are underpinned by materials - in all phases of the value chain and innovation cycle. As such these are knowledge-intensive materials.

The European Materials Science and Engineering Expert Committee (MatSEEC) recently conducted a set of foresight studies on the needs for materials in several technology sectors, such as materials for energy and materials for key enabling technologies. This talk will present a summary of the foresight process and a first set of conclusions.

In particular, we propose the creation of open access centres, or technology validation platforms, as the backbone for a new European innovation incubation network for knowledge-intensive materials and materials processing.
