Green CO2: a Key Element for Resource and Energy Efficiency in Process Industry
Green CO2 indicates the new concept of using carbon dioxide as a key enabling element for the strategy towards resource and energy efficiency in process industry. The perspectives and state of the art in producing solar fuels and chemicals from CO2 and the roadmap to proceed in this direction, as well as the related Cefic CO2 initiative, are presented.
After introducing this new vision for CO2 use, and related aspects regarding the energy vectors and the problem of introducing renewable energy in the energy and chemical production chain, some specific examples are analyzed (light olefins and solar fuels from CO2). The final part is dedicated to discuss the longer term perspective of the development of artificial leaf type solar cells.
